The FireTV Stick 4K 1st Gen (E9L29Y) has been removed from this listing. We are seeing performance issues on this model using today’s middleware, graphics, etc, which means these models can no longer be enhanced or improved with new features or graphics as even marginal changes could cause further performance issues. The observed performance issues are out of memory errors and video playback interruptions, causing the user to be dropped out of the app and back to the Guide.

Roku
* Audio issues on Roku Streaming Sticks (3820,3821) have been reported on recording playbacks if AC3 audio is in use. If AAC audio is also present, on tune to the live streams, from service HLS Packager, AAC audio is selected, and no audio issues occur during live video. Unfortunately, due to a Roku limitation, these Roku devices will only request AC3 audio on playbacks (cDVR, VOD), even if AAC is available. Our Roku application is unable to force these Roku devices to prefer and request AAC. Complicating this, multichannel AAC and AC3 decoding are not supported on all Roku models.
To work around this issue, if AAC is available, the service that handles playbacks, VHLS, has been enhanced to provide AAC ONLY when playbacks (cDVR, VOD) are requested by Roku Streaming Sticks (3820,3821). AC3 audio will continue to be requested by all other Roku models. Requires InnoStream package virtualhls-2 2.0.40-4+ and Roku application 4.1.12+
If AC3 is the only audio available and audio issues are heard during playbacks, setting the Roku’s audio settings from Auto to Dolby may resolve. In the instances where the TV in use does not support decoding AC3, audio issues may persist. This is caused, unfortunately, by lack of support for AC3 decode.
Testing has also indicated certain Roku models do not handle multiple AC3 audio frames in a single MPEGTS PES payload, resulting in sped up video during playbacks (cDVR). Remuxing of the AC3 audio is now performed by the VHLS service on playback when Roku is included in the device request user agent string. This remux is done for all Roku models, to compensate for this Roku issue. Requires InnoStream package virtualhls-2 2.0.46-4+
Additionally, higher bitrate streams caused the end of the audio to be too far into the next segment for VHLS to find it, result dropped audio packets on playback. Changing the readahead to compensate for this.
NOTE: Issue is not seen when using the InnoCoder for transcodes, as it muxes only one audio frame per payload block in the transport stream. Requires InnoStream package virtualhls-2 2.0.47-4+
Roku OS 15.0.4 – Roku 2 Model 4210X
Information only, not a qualified device, the Roku 2 (4210X), OS 15.0.4, will no longer play video DASH/M3u8 (fmp4) encoded as High 4.2 or above (mime avc1.64002a). Stream Tester errors out with “Malformed stream data” and continually tries all configured URLs.
Roku OS 14 – Error Playing AC3
Introduced by Roku’s OS 14 update, the following error is being reported by devices that do not support AC3 decode on tune to live streams with AC3 and the live streams are not playable, “Error – Video Error string: decoder:pump:Unsupported audio format:Dolby Digital.” Roku has acknowledged the issue. No resolution has been provided. To work around the issue AAC audio must be provided.
If both AC3 and AAC are being provided, a flag may be set to force filter of AC3 and playback of AAC to any Roku device. This requires innovative-virtualhls-33.0.11-4 and Support assistance to enable the flag.
Roku OS 13 – Channel Loading Guide Issue
Introduced by Roku’s OS 13 update, the Roku platform intermittently fails to pass data our application is requesting. This results in a failure to load a channel’s guide and our application displays, “Loading…”. A retry mechanism has been added to our application in version 24.1.17and greater. If retries are not successful, our application stops its attempts to load the guide and displays“Unavailable” for the channel. The user can tune to the channel, but new recordings cannot be set without guide data. Reloading the application may resolve the issue as the issue is extremely intermittent. No resolution from Roku has been provided.
Apple
* All Apple devices require the container format for HEVC video MUST be fMP4. Lookback, cDVR, and VOD playbacks use VHLS to play the recording in ts (transport stream) format. Due to this, these playbacks are not supported on Apple devices when HEVC video is in use. Restart playback uses the HLS Packager which does provide fMP4 when HEVC video is in use. At present, if using HEVC, and Lookback, cDVR, and/or VOD, HEVC video must be transcoded to 1080p or 720p H.264/AAC to allow these playback types to work with Apple devices. Be advised, this will require double diskspace for all HEVC channels.

MyTVs – Chromecast Casting Fails with AC3 Audio
Be advised if AC3 is the only available audio stream, casting may fail as AC3 audio is not supported on a majority of chromecast devices. The behavior seen when this fails is the chromecast will disconnect as soon as it attempts playback and video returns to the device (phone running MyTVs application). Airplay and Casting are available features for the My TVs application in v22+. Also requires a minimum of hls-packager-6.5 on the packaging InnoStream server.

Device Not Listed?
Newer Models of the listed devices and Smart TVs equipped with Amazon, Roku and/or AppleTV software may work in most cases, but are not guaranteed.
Newer consumer devices will generally work, provided that they are models that have increased memory and processing power over models already supported above. New models that are cheaper and reduce memory and/or processing power, or which support just 30 fps, may not work and are not supported. Examples of non-supported devices are Fire TV Stick Lite and other devices on the lower-end that do not have the power to run the apps we create for our service provider customers.
Important Notice – Translite Global AndroidTV
The Translite Global AndroidTV device is considered a non qualified, third party device. While the hardware is managed by Translite Global’s ACS platform, the AndroidTV operating system and core behaviors are controlled by Google.
